Eutectics Dominate Coyotes

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic men's volleyball team took care of business on Saturday morning, taking just one hour to defeat Heart of America Athletic Conference (HEART) foe Kansas Christian University (4-11, 1-11 HEART) in straight sets. The three-set dominant victory over KWU was a welcome improvement from their February meeting in Kansas which required five sets for the UHSP win. With the victory, the Eutectics move to 6-6 in the Conference and 9-9 overall this season.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP def. KWU 25-15, 25-7, 25-21

  • After a 2-2 start, the Eutectics quickly pulled away from the KWU Coyotes as the UHSP attackers put down 18 kills on 29 attempts with no errors to hit at 62.1%. The Coyotes hit at a respectable .200, staving off set point twice, but the Eutectics finished off the set with a kill by Maxwell McVickers assisted by RJ Dilks to win 25-15.
  • The Eutectics won the first 11 points of the second set off eight UHSP kills and three KWU errors. The Coyotes were finally able to mark the board, but could not change the momentum of the Eutectic freight train as the UHSP team won six of the last seven points to claim the lopsided set at 25-7.
  • With Eutectic non-starters on the court in the third set, the score was closer with nine tie scores in the first 22 points. The UHSP squad was finally able to pull ahead for good off a KWU service error at 12-11. Led by Ashton VanCura's four kills and Nolan Rausch's nine assists in the set, the Eutectics clinched the match with a score of 25-21 in the third set.
  • Cameron Werner finished the match with eight kills on nine attempts in two sets for an unprecedented 88.9% hitting average. As a team, the Eutectics finished at .386 for attacking percentage.
