Eutectics battle Maryville close throughout, but Saints prevail

TOWN & COUNTRY, MO – Makai Scott powered Maryville to a tight straight set win over UHSP on Tuesday night as he had a match-high 13 kills with an attack percentage of .414 as the Saints won their fifth straight to get back to the .500 mark at 5-5. The bookend sets went extra points and the middle set was 16-16 until Maryville close it out winning nine of the final 12 points. The loss sent UHSP to their third straight loss.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

MARYVILLE DEF. UHSP; 26-24, 25-19, 26-24

  • The opening set was tied at the first dozen possible junctures as neither team could gain a two-point lead until UHSP led 14-12. It was tied six more times down the stretch after that, lastly at 24-24 as Cooper Hansen got a kill off a Gabriel Schneekloth assist. Maryville got the next two points to take the opener, 26-24.
  • UHSP led the second set 9-8 when the Saints took a 13-9 on a service run from Jake Asher. Tied at 16-16, it was Makai Scott with a run of service points for MU to build a 21-16 lead. The Eutectics could not get any close than four as Maryville won the set, 25-19.
  • Dickson Colado and Grant Hoover got early kills in the third to put UHSP on top 7-3. Maryville trimmed the lead to one at 14-13 and then took nine of the next 13 to go up 22-18. UHSP scored four straight to pull back even thanks to kills from Cameron Werner and Maxwell McVickers. But at 24-24, the Saints used a pair of Eutectic errors to wrap up a 26-24 win.
  • Cooper Hansen led UHSP with nine kills but had six hitting errors and connected at .094 for the match. He had a team-high eight digs.
  • Maryville had just 11 hitting errors for the match while UHSP had 17. The Saints swung at .330 while the Eutectics connected at .211.
  • Dickson Colado was the Eutectics' most reliable attacker with six kills and a .286 hitting percentage.
  • Gabriel Schneekloth had 30 assists and four digs. Jake Usher had 30 assists from the Saints.
