PERU, NEB. – The Eutectic women's volleyball team opened the 2025 season with a trip to Peru, Neb., for a tri-match on Saturday. Looking to notch their first-ever victory over the Peru State Bobcats, the Eutectics fell in straight sets to the hosts (25-14, 25-17, 21-18) to start the day. The UHSP team then faced Sterling College, falling 25-12, 25-5, 25-12.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Peru State def. UHSP: 25-14, 25-18, 25-19

  • Set 1 - An early kill by Sierra Aplanalp (assisted by Jenna Brinson) put UHSP on the board, but later a five-point run by the Bobcats extended the lead to 12-5, swinging the momentum squarely in favor of the home team. Tera Schumacher and Aplanalp had back-to-back kills late in the set, but the Bobcats were able to close the set on errors.
  • Set 2 - After four straight aces from PSU's Shealie Wiebers, UHSP was able to respond with an ace from Alani Hicks and a double block by Michaud and Aplanalp to make it 6-4, Bobcats. Late kills from Kynaston and Schumacher kept UHSP alive before Peru State pulled away.
  • Set 3 – After a 4-0 start, the Eutectics used a couple of kills and a block by Sumanpreet Kaur to come within two point of Peru State at 6-4. After that, the Euts played the Bobcats close, with libero Makenzie Uribe making several impressive digs to keep the UHSP team alive. Hannah Kynaston scored late kills before Peru State closed the match with kills from Wiebers and Brinley Falkinburg.
  • Match Totals - Kynaston led the team with eight kills in the match, while Brinson was the floor leader, racking up 22 assists and 13 digs. Kaur and Aplanalp combined for four blocks and Uribe was the defensive anchor, picking up 16 digs and two aces.

Sterling def. UHSP: 25-12, 25-5, 25-12

  • Set 1 – The Warriors' 6-2 streak was interrupted by a kill from Michaud, but continued on to 11-3 lead for Sterling. Kills from Kaur and Michaud (set up by Brinson) and an ace from Hannah Duggan got the Euts back in at 11-8. But, the Warrior offense was too much for the Euts in the end as they sealed the set with two kills and an ace.
  • Set 2 – Two kills from Kynaston and two service errors were the only things interrupting the Warriors offensive run to start the set at 12-4. Uribe added another ace and several digs during a defensive stretch, but Sterling finished the set with 13-point scoring run served up by Taylor "Dru" Lindsey, riddled with Eutectic errors.
  • Set 3 -  The Warriors held a 6-4 lead when Lindsey stepped up to the service line and delivered another six points in a row before Kynaston was able to connect off an assist from Brinson. But, the Sterling team continued its barrage of attacks to close out the set and the match.
  • Match Totals – Kynaston was again the UHSP leader in kills, tallying five. Brinson put up 12 assists and seven digs, while Uribe and Ava Baggett tallied nine and eight digs, respectively.
