Blackburn answers late Eutectic goal to escape with win over UHSP

ST. LOUIS, MO – Blackburn and UHSP met in their eighth all-time meeting and a late goal by the Beavers gave the visitors a 2-1 victory. Abner Portillo delivered the game winner for Blackburn giving them a 4-3-1 edge over the Eutectics all-time.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

BLACKBURN 2, UHSP 1

• The score was 1-0 at the half with Grant Eugea scoring the lone goal of the half for Blackburn. Cristian Cazares set him up for the shot with his first assist of the season while the goal for Eugea was his third of the year.
• The Beavers outshot the Eutectics in the first half 10-5, but Christopher Taylor had three different headers that he knocked off the crossbar. Pietro Martano twice tired to set up Taylor with passes into the box that Taylor missed by inches from converting to goals.
• With 22-and-a-half minutes left, UHSP had one of their best offensive chances to that point.
• The Eutectics finally broke through with 16:12 left. Martano sent a beautiful through ball to Owen Rodgers who made a 30-yard run and lofted one softly over the helpless BC keeper Juan Vargas and into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
• Blackburn reclaimed the lead off a corner kick as Eugea delivered one into a congested box and Abner Portillo deflected it in for his first of the lead and a 2-1 lead.
• UHSP received a free kick with 1:24 left just outside the penalty area, but Martano sent the free kick high.
• The game featured 29 total fouls and six yellow cards, three to each team.
• Blackburn had a ten shot edge over UHSP, 21-11.
• Christian Morales took the loss in net for UHSP making five saves.
• Vargas needed to make just one save between the pipes for the Beavers in picking up the win.

The Eutectics (1-4) will face a new opponent for the first time in their next match when the host Southwest Baptist on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 7:30p.
