Blue Jays Take Down Eutectics in Three Close Sets
FULTON, MO. – The Eutectic women's volleyball team travelled to Fulton, Mo., on Wednesday, for a mid-week non-conference matchup with NCAA Division 3 Westminster College. The Eutectics put them to the test, forcing extra points in Set 2, but the 22-5 WC Blue Jays ultimately prevailed in three sets.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
WU def. UHSP 25-18, 28-26, 25-19
- The first set remained close until at 19-17, the Blue Jays got down to business, winning six of the next seven points off three kills and three UHSP errors.
- Set 2 was a similar story, with both teams rallying to stay within a point of the leader. The Eutectics staved off set point at 24-23 with a kill by Tera Schumacher set up by Jenna Brinson, then evened the score after WC attack error. After a bad set from the Blue Jays tied the score at 26 apiece, the home team was able to finish off the set with a kill and a block for a score of 28-26.
- After a six-point run put the Blue Jays up 9-3 in Set 3, the Eutectics were never able to recover, dropping the set 25-19 to end the match.
- The Blue Jays notched double digits for kills in each set and recorded nine more kills than the Eutectics in the match (67-58) despite the Eutectics out-blocking the home team 6-4.
- Setter Jenna Brinson picked up another 26 assists in the three-set match, contributing to her career total of 2747 – just 122 short of the Eutectic program record. She recorded a double double in the match, adding 10 digs to the UHSP total of 58.
- MaKenzie Uribe collected 18 digs and Sumanpreet Kaur and Hannah Kynaston each pitched in three blocks to lead the UHSP on defense. Kaur was also the top attacker with eight kills on 22 attempts.
- Westminster's Katelynn Jackson led all players with 14 kills and 19 digs.

Now 3-19, the Eutectics, will return to American Midwest Conference (AMC) competition on Friday in the UHSP gymnasium. They hope to improve their 3-6 record in the AMC with a victory over Cottey College (Mo.)(12-12, 6-3 AMC) at the 3 p.m. match.
