ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's volleyball team welcomed six teams to the UHSP campus for the first day of the Eutectics Classic volleyball tournament in the UHSP gym on Friday. The Eutectics took on York University (Neb.) for their first match of the tournament, falling in three sets. Then, faced University of St. Francis (Ill.) in their second match of the day, falling in straight sets.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
York def. UHSP 25-16, 25-14, 25-15
- The Eutectics struggled with consistency against the York Panthers (5-10), who came off a straight-set victory over Cottey College (4-5) to start the tournament earlier in the day.
- UHSP matched York's kills in the second set, but the Panthers showed their strength at the net, notching seven blocks in the match.
- Hannah Kynaston led all players with 14 kills in the match on 31 attempts, hitting at .323. Jenna Brinson recorded the most assists with 20.
SFU def. UHSP 25-22, 25-12, 25-13
- St. Francis (4-7), just came off a marathon five-set victory over Friends University that delayed the start of the final match of the evening on Court 1 by an hour and a half.
- The Eutectics came from behind to take an 11-7 lead in the first set, but the Saints eventually caught their breath from the previous match and used their momentum to chase down the UHSP team to a 25-22 set victory.
- The Purple and Gold seemed rattled when an on-court injury forced the departure of Kynaston in the second set, and the Saints took full advantage of UHSP's struggles, finishing off the second and third sets quickly.
- Sumanpreet Kaur led the Euts on offense with six kills. Brinson collected 17 assists, and MaKenzie Uribe and Alani Hicks each reached double figures in digs.

The Eutectics, now 0-9, will return to their home floor on Saturday for Day 2 of the Eutectics Classic. For their first match of the day, they will take on Friends (Kan.)(9-3) at 11 a.m. Then, they'll close out the tournament against Evangel University (Mo.)(13-2) at 3 p.m.
