Bearcats Block Eutectics from Home Opener Win

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's volleyball team hosted the Bearcats from Brescia University (Ky.)(5-5) on Thursday night for the UHSP home opener, looking for the first win of the 2025 season. A strong Bearcat front line and scrappy back row prohibited the Eutectics from a notch in the "W" column, however, as the visitors won the match in straight sets: 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Brescia def. UHSP, 3-0: 25-22, 25-22, 25-18

  • The Eutectics tallied six blocks in the match – the most in a single match this season. But, the Bearcats knocked down nine blocks, while picking up 42 digs to UHSP's 27.
  • Hannah Duggan (2), Sierra Aplanalp (2), MaKenzie Uribe (1), and Jenna Brinson (1) combined for six UHSP service aces. But, that wasn't enough to compensate for the team's 16 service errors in the match, while Brescia had five aces and eight errors.
  • The Bearcats took an early lead and held on to it through Set 1 for the 25-22 win.
  • An ace from Aplanalp put the Eutectics up 6-1 in the second set and were up 21-16 when the Brescia team took advantage of multiple Eutectic errors to come from behind for the win at 25-22, again.
  • The Bearcats held the momentum for much of the third set and finished it with two kills from Kendyn Syfert (from Cheaney Archer) for the 25-18 set win.
  • Sumanpreet Kaur led the Eutectics on the attack from the middle, recording six kills on 11 attempts to hit .364. Aplanalp and Hannah Kynaston each had four block assists. Brinson picked up 23 assists and helped on defense along with Alani Hicks and Uribe, who each tallied five digs.
