Eutectics Take One Set off Gorloks, but Can’t Break the Streak

WEBSTER GROVES, MO. – The Eutectic women's volleyball team set off across town on Wednesday night to take on the Gorloks at Webster University. The UHSP squad was able to win the third set to force a fourth, but could not break Webster's 22-0 advantage in head-to-head competition since 1993, falling 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

WEBSTER def. UHSP 3-1: 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21

  • A close first set eventually went in favor of the Gorloks 25-17 following multiple service aces from WU's Riley Watson who also set up teammate Lauren Brown for success on the attack.
  • The Eutectics recovered from a series of errors in the second set, to chase down the Gorloks with strong offense from Sierra Aplanalp, who notched three aces in a row and a couple of kills as the Purple and Gold tied the score at 19 apiece. A pair of aces from WU's Megan Zablonski turned the tide in favor of the home team, however, who notched the set victory at 25-23.

The Gorloks, however were able to follow that up with a five-point scoring run to take a lead they would not give up and won the set at 25-21.
