The Eutectics took a thin roster to Columbia for an American Midwest Conference affair against the Stephens Stars on Saturday afternoon. The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy rolled into Battle High School with only 12 available players.
Stephens took advantage scoring the opening goal just 2:15 in as Kailee Wisber notched her seventh goal of the season. Wisber scored after UHSP broke up a corner kick chance by the Stars, but could not clear the ball out of the penalty area. Wisber lofted a soft left-footed kick through traffic and into the left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
UHSP was able to even the score 17 minutes later. Katlyn Akers stole a ball just shy of midfield. After a quick give-and-go with Taliyah Parker, Akers was able to drive a ball downfield that Parker was able to chase down after outrunning two Stephens' defenders. Parker settled the ball to her foot and was able score with a shot past an oncoming Stars keeper, Sophia Schafer-Ramos to make it a 1-1 game.
The game only remained tied for six minutes when Isabel Meyers scored her first of the year to put Stephens up 2-1. Wisber would put the game away with goals about four minutes on either side of the intermission to cap off a hat trick and a 4-1 Stars win.
Stephens outshot UHSP 30-14. All the heavy offense from Stephens resulted in Zoe Dixon making 11 saves in the game for UHSP. The Stars beat UHSP at home for the first time since 2019. The Eutectics (1-5, 0-3) make a road trip to Conway, AR to meet Central Baptist on Tuesday before hosting their Senior Day next Saturday when Williams Baptist comes to town.
