Eutectics Dispatch of Wildcats in Straight Sets

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic men's volleyball team made short work of Heart of America Athletic Conference (HEART) foe Culver-Stockton College on Tuesday, winning 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 in the UHSP gymnasium. The win is UHSP's third in a row, following two huge Conference victories over the weekend, to bring the Eutectics to a record of 6-10 overall and 4-7 in the HEART. After narrowly defeating the CSC Wildcats (now 1-17, 0-8 HEART) on their home court back on Feb. 11, this time the Eutectics' victory was never in doubt as they maintained the momentum to cruise to a straight-set victory.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

  • As they have in the last three matches, the Eutectics recorded an attacking percentage well above their season average of 17.1%, pounding down 43 kills in the three-set match with an efficiency of 26.5%.
  • UHSP held CSC to 19.2% attacking and three blocks, while the Wildcats gave up 11 points on service errors.
  • After receiving Attacker of the Week honors last week, Grant Hoover continued his assault on the ball, racking up 16 kills on 27 attempts against CSC for an impressive attacking average of 48.1%. He finished the night with 16 points, having also reached double figures in digs with 10.
  • Setter RJ Dilks set up 41 assists and picked up five digs and two block assists.
  • Cooper Hansen and Cameron Werner combined for 21 kills, with Werner involved in four of the team's five blocks.
  • Werner and David Quinones each served up two aces, while libero Xavier Gamayo posted 12 digs.

The Eutectics will take a break from Conference competition, hosting the Indiana Tech Warriors (7-6) from Fort Wayne on Thursday, Mar. 13, at 7 p.m. for the teams' first-ever meeting.
