Big first half pushes Harris-Stowe past UHSP

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO – The full capability of the Harris-Stowe offense was on display in a five goal first half on Wednesday afternoon against UHSP as the Hornets did not need anything more after that, taking a 5-0 decision from the Eutectics. HSSU scored three different ways in the first half and improved to 11-0 all-time against their St. Louis neighbors in a series that dates back to 2014.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

HARRIS-STOWE 5, UHSP 0

  • Gennaro Ammirati opened the scoring with his first of the season in the 18th minute.
  • Just over eight minutes later, Kyle Nicholls scored likely the most highlight-worthy goal he will score all year. Nicholls lined up for a corner kick to the right of USHP keeper Christian Morales. With a stiff wind blowing all game, Nicholls lofted a high ball that began curling towards the far corner of cage. The ball curved over a leaping Morales and into the back of the net without ever being touched. Nicholls added his second of the game 12 minutes later after the Hornets were given a penalty kick when a Eutectics pulled down in the box on a ball lofted toward the net. Nicholls went left side with the shot and while Morales dove that direction, the ball was out of his reach for a 3-0 HSSU lead.
  • Nicholas Wingren made it a 4-0 lead as he redirected a ball from the left flank into the short side on Morales for his first of the season.
  • Mario De La Fuente capped the first half scoring with one of the prettiest goals you will see all year. Harris-Stowe advanced the ball out of the backfield with Brenner Gollaher who fed a pass to Adefolarin Adigun just outside the top of the 18-yard-box and to the right of center. Adigun delivered a one-touch heel pass to Leonardo Mori. Mori took one dribbled and laid a pass out in front to a driving De La Fuente who cut in from the left wing and rifled a shot past a helpless Morales for his seventh of the year and a 5-0 advantage.
  • Morales made five saves in his near 78 minutes worth of work. Wyatt Taylor worked the final 12 minutes and made one save.
  • Matheus Pereira da Silva and Kazuyuki Matsumoto each worked a half in net for the Hornets with da Silva getting the start.
  • The Eutectics were held without a shot in the game while the Hornets managed 26, 11 of which were on goal.

NEXT UP:

The Eutectics (1-14-1, 0-4-1 AMC) finish out the regular season with a make-up game on Saturday at home against Williams Baptist (6-7-2, 4-1 AMC). The Eagles were in town back on October 18, but the game never took place as lightning ruled the day. UHSP has not beaten WBU in 11 previous meetings.
