UHSP Sweeps AMC Athlete of the Week Honors

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced a clean sweep of the Conference player of the week awards for UHSP Women's Outdoor Track & Field: Shamari Long was named Field Athlete of the Week and Leah Macon-Ford received Track Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Mar. 23-29.

SHAMARI LONG – FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

  • Long improved her own school record in the javelin throw by more than eight inches on Saturday at the Billiken Invite hosted by Saint Louis University.
  • She finished fourth of 22 throwers in the event with a new program record of 38.51m (34'10.5").
  • She currently tops the AMC leaderboard with that mark by more than 3.5m (11 feet).
  • Long also competed in two track events over the weekend:
    • As part of the UHSP 4x100m relay team that finished third of seven teams at the meet.  
    • Finished 12th of 22 in the 100m dash at the SLU Speed/Power Festival on Friday.

LEAH MACON-FORD – TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

  • Macon-Ford won the 100m dash at two separate meets over the weekend.
    • On Friday at the SLU Speed/Power Festival, she beat out 21 other competitors in the 100m dash with a time of 12.04 seconds.
    • On Saturday at the Billiken Invite, Macon-Ford won the event with a time of 11.91 seconds among 28 competing sprinters.
  • She finished second of 36 sprinters entered in the 200m dash on Saturday with a time of 25.07.
  • She currently leads the AMC in both the 100m and 200m dashes. She was the 2025 Conference champion in both events.  
  • Macon-Ford also ran a leg of the UHSP 4x100m relay team that ran a season-best time to finish third of seven teams.
