Washington and Fritzler Lead UHSP Women to Seventh Place; Fiacco and Simily Break Records at Greenville Select
The Eutectic men's and women's track and field teams travelled to Greenville, Ill., on Saturday to compete in the Greenville University Select outdoor meet. Taylor Washington and Elizabeth Fritzler combined to score 18 of the women's team's 26 total points to lead the UHSP women to a seventh-place finish of 16 teams competing. Colten Duvall scored for the men's team, who finished 12th of 16. Alivia Simily and Nick Fiacco broke UHSP field event records at the meet.
Women:
Sophomore Taylor Washington had the highest Eutectic finish at the meet, racing to second place (of 15) in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.86. She continues to top the American Midwest Conference (AMC) performance list in the event by more than a second. Washington also scored in the High Jump at Greenville, finishing seventh (of 15) by clearing 1.53m (5'00.25") on her third attempt.
Freshman Elizabeth Fritzler finished third of 24 throwers in the Discus event with a toss of 36.39m (119'05"). Fritzler also scored in the Shot Put, marking 10.60m (34'09.5") on her first attempt to finish in seventh place of 19 competitors.
Alivia Simily made great improvements in the horizontal jumps. With her fifth-place finish in the Triple Jump (of 14 jumpers competing), she set a new UHSP record of 10.96m (35'11.50") in the event. The mark is more than two feet better than the previous record of 10.10m (33'01.75") held by Kamara Cox since 2013, and an entire meter further than Simily's previous personal best. She also added several inches to her Long Jump PR with a 10th-place mark (of 19) of 4.95m (16'03"). With her new improved marks, Simily holds the longest Triple Jump in the AMC and the third-best Long Jump mark so far this season.
Mariah Scott (400m Hurdles), Lilly Combs (Javelin), and the 4x100m Relay Team of Scott, Arianna Buduan, Simily, and Washington also scored points in the meet by finishing in the top-eight in their events.
Scott (100m Hurdles), Paulina Gutierrez-Trejo (100m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles), Kelsey Honeycutt (Shot Put, Javelin, and Discus), and the 4x100m Relay team all set new personal records (PRs) at the meet.
Men:
On his third attempt in the Hammer Throw, senior Nick Fiacco obliterated the UHSP record with a new career-best mark of 40.66m (133'05") for 13th place (of 30). The mark is his personal best by nearly five feet and broke the previous Eutectic record of 40.10m (131'07") set by Clinton Washington in 2014.
Colten Duvall had the highest Eutectic finish at the meet, taking eighth place (of 18) in the Javelin Throw with a toss of 38.53m (126'05") on his first attempt. Duvall currently holds the fifth-best Javelin mark in the AMC.
Competing in his first outdoor meet of 2024, Jahari Hines finished 10th of 37 sprinters in the 100m Dash. His time of 11.38 seconds is the sixth-best in the AMC so far this season.
The Eutectics will compete again next weekend at the Billiken Alumni Invite hosted by Saint Louis University on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20.
