Macon-Ford Repeats AMC Track Athlete of the Week Honors
ST. LOUIS, MO. – Freshman sprinter Leah Macon-Ford continues to rack up honors in her first season on the UHSP women's track and field team. Last week, she received American Midwest Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors. This week, after record-breaking performances and first-place finishes at the Principia College Relays on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, Macon-Ford earned her second-such Conference award to own back-to-back AMC Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Macon-Ford started off the weekend on Friday by turning in the fastest time of 29 sprinters in the 60m Dash at 7.76 to qualify for the finals scheduled for Saturday. She followed that up with a new school record to beat out 23 competitors and win the 200m Dash with a time of 26.62 (adjusted to 26.22 in TFRRs due to track size). The stopwatch time improved her own UHSP record in the event by .09 seconds.
On Saturday, Macon-Ford maintained her first-place standing the 60m Dash, winning the finals with a time of 7.80. Later in the day, she joined with teammates Mariah Scott, Jaliyah Potts, and Payton Burke to smash the school record in the 4 x 200m Relay by more than 10 seconds and finish fourth in the event.
Macon-Ford now holds three UHSP records for women's indoor track. She has turned in the fastest time in the Conference for the 60m Dash and ranks second for the 200m Dash to date.
