Eutectics open Indoor Track season at Illinois Wesleyan

The Eutectics traveled to Bloomington, Illinois this past weekend for the IWU First Chance Meet, which marked the start of their season. Overall, both the UHSP women's and men's teams had strong starts to the new season and good performances.

In the 60-Meter hurdles, sophomore Taylor Washington got her season started with a lightning-fast 9.28 finishing in second place. In her first 300-Meter dash, freshman Payton Burke finished in 10th place with a 48.52, marking a fantastic beginning to her collegiate career. Washington and Burke both gave performances that were school records. Paulina Gutierrez-Trejo ran a 54.90 in the 300-Meter event to finish three spots behind teammate Burke. Mariah Scott qualified for the finals in the 60-Meter hurdles with a qualifying run of 10.11, running a 10.61 in the finals to finish seventh. Gutierrez-Trejo did not qualify for the finals in the 60-Meter hurdles with a 11.87 in heat two.

In the high jump, Taylor Washington set a personal best with a leap of 1.48 meters (4-10.25) in her fourth attempt. She finished sixth overall.

With a shot-put score of 11.16m (36'7.5"), freshman Hanna Burch led the Eutectics and finished fourth overall while Elizabeth Fritzler tossed 10.87 meters in also her third attempt to finish sixth. Lannah Prysi and Kelsey Honeycutt were 12th and 14th overall after throws of 8.82m and 8.42m respectively. Brianna Ramsey went for 13.13m in the weight throw to claim sixth overall.

On the men's side, Jared Morales ran 39.58 in the first 300-Meters of his career placing 25th overall. In the 600-Meters, he ran 1:33.89 to place fourth overall. 

In the weight and shot-put events, Nick Flacco led the Eutectic men. He threw a shot put of 10.31 meters (33'10) and a weight throw of 12.20 meters (28'7). He placed 12th in the weight throw and 11th in the shot put. Colten Duvall threw 9.87m in the shot put  to finish 14th and 8.71m in the weight throw to place 19th.

Overall, the Eutectics have gotten off to a great start. They will try to build on this when they return from break and go to Jacksonville, Illinois to compete at the Snowbird Invite on January 20.
