Big second half leads to win over Williams Baptist
WALNUT RIDGE, AR – It was a come-from-behind win for the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy that put them on the brink of a new program record after they knocked off the Williams Baptist Eagles on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
The Eagles needed only :17 seconds to get on the board as Victoria de Abreu scored unassisted against UHSP keeper Lauren Harding as the home club took a 1-0 lead. The two clubs split 16 shots over the course of the rest of the first half as it remained a 1-0 contest headed to the half.
In the second half, the Eutectics patience paid off. Isabelle Rogers played the role of distributor as she set up Sarah Agnew for the tying goal at 58:51 as Agnew netted her second of the year. Just over ten minutes later, Rogers was at it again as she found Hannah Tyree who put one past the WBU netminder Lisa Craig for what would be the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal. The Eutectics would outshoot the Eagles 12-9 in the second half and hang on for the 2-1 win. Each goaltender would make nine saves in the contest.
For UHSP, they improve to 6-5 overall and match the program record for wins in a single season. The Eutectics went 6-7-1 in 2020 which stands as the most wins in a year. The three conference wins that same year are also the program record for their best record in American Midwest Conference play.
The Eutectics will have three more games in which to try and set a new overall and conference mark with their next chance coming next weekend when they travel to William Woods to meet the Owls (7-5-3, 3-1) at 6:00pm before returning home to host Harris Stowe in a weekday matinee on Tuesday, October 29. They wrap the regular season on Saturday, November 2 at home against Missouri Baptist.
