Eutectic Women Drop Season-Opener at CMU in Overtime
FAYETTE, MO. – The Eutectic women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season on the road on Tuesday with a matchup with the Central Methodist University Eagles in Fayette, Mo. After getting ahead by six points in the first quarter and leading by six points at the half (37-31), the Eutectics fell behind after the third quarter and battled back to force overtime at 66-66. The Eagles prevailed in the final five minutes, outscoring the Eutectics 17-7 to win the game, 83-73.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
CMU 83, UHSP 73 – OT
- Led by Reese Halley's 14, the Eutectics crashed the boards for 65 rebounds on the night – the second-most in program history – outrebounding the CMU Eagles by 16 and creating offensive chances. The chances did not pay off as often as they would have liked, however, as the UHSP team went 26-for-84 (31%) from the floor and 2-for-30 from the arc (6.7%) while the Eagles were 31-70 (44.3%) and 5-for-24 (20.8%).
- The Eutectics scored a game-high 24 points in the first quarter (to the Eagles' 18), scoring 14 of those points from layups and another five (on seven attempts) from the free throw line.
- The teams matched up with 13 points apiece in the second period to head into intermission with Eutectics leading 37-31.
- The Eagles ramped it up in the third quarter, outscoring the Eutectics 19-11 to take a 50-48 lead.
- CMU would score another six points before UHSP found the net in the fourth quarter. But, the Eutectics were able to score six points in a row after layups from Montasia McAllister and Alise Milenberga and a made jump-shot from Analyssa Maldonado. The teams traded the lead several times in the final minute of play, but a foul by CMU with 10 seconds on the clock put Maldonado at the line to drain the free throw to tie the score at 66 and force overtime.
- The Eagles claimed the first eight points of the overtime period to claim a lead they would not relinquish. The Eutectics came within four points after two made free throws from Aryanna Bull, (74-70), with 2:22 left on the clock, but that was as close as they would come.
- Montasia McAllister led all scorers with 20 points and nabbed four steals. Aryanna Bull notched a double double in her first game in a Eutectic uniform, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Da'Naiyah Darnell also reached double digits in scoring with 14 points.
- The Eagles had four players score more than 10 points, led by Alina Riley's 16. Asnate Gerke recorded 14 rebounds for CMU.
