This time the big 4th Q goes against UHSP
On Saturday, the Eutectics Women's Basketball team faced Benedictine College in their second game of the Holiday Inn Express Classic. Despite an outstanding effort, the Eutectics fell to Benedictine 66-59.
Both teams battled to keep the score close in the first quarter. Alleigh Kramer's bucket with 2:57 left in the first brought Benedictine to within one at 9-8. Grace Beyer scored the final six points of the quarter for UHSP as the Eutectics led 15-11 after the first. Midway through the second quarter, the Ravens would battle back and even things at 20-20 after a basket from Lauryn Dubbert. Elizabeth Allanach would make a huge three-pointer with 3:33 left in the second to put the Eutectics back in front as UHSP would not trail for the remainder of the half. The Eutectics had a three-point advantage over the Ravens at the half, 30-27 thanks to their ability to force turnovers and make key free throws.
In the third, the Eutectics gained some separation on a Samantha Mathews three-pointer to bring the score to 35-27 with 7:10 left. Benedictine was forced to spend the rest of the third quarter trying to chip away at that deficit, but Kennedy Nicholason's three-pointer at 1:54 put the Ravens back in front 43–41. The rest of the points in the quarter were scored on six combined free throws as the game went to the final quarter tied at 45-45.
The Ravens opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run, taking a 52-45 lead at 6:05 on a shot from Aaliyah Raines. The Ravens would get a sequence of back-to-back offensive rebound putbacks sandwiched around a Beyer triple to go up 54-48 at 5:22. Samantha Mathews got the Eutectics close knocking down a three at 4:32 to make it a three-point game at 54-51. The Ravens responded with a 5-0 lead to gain a 59-51 advantage and held on for a seven point win.
Grace Beyer had another outstanding day for the Eutectics with 30 total points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Elizabeth Allanach added 11 points and Samantha Mathews added 10 points. Kennedy Nicholson and Alleigh Kramer each posted 17 points for Benedictine.
Next weekend, the Eutectics will travel once more to Kansas, for the Tabor Classic in Hillsboro, KS, where they will play Tabor and Bethany.
