Grace Beyer starts season as AMC Player of the Week

The 2023-24 college basketball season tipped off this past weekend and two games in, this season is at least starting out the same way that last years' did: with Grace Beyer being named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week. The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy guard was named the top women's player in the AMC for the week of Oct. 23-29. Beyer began last season by sweeping the opening month of the basketball calendar year as she won the AMC PoW award for the first four weeks of the season.

The past weekend in Bethel, Tennessee, Beyer led the Eutectics scoring a combined 73 points in just two games. The senior guard dumped 45-points on the host Wildcats in the season opener on 14-of-22 shooting and went 14-of-17 from the foul line. She also added nine rebounds, three assists and two steals in a come-from-behind 77-69 win over Bethel. On Saturday afternoon, Beyer went for 28-points, four boards and five assists. She was 7-of-15 from the floor and 13-of-14 from the charity stripe as the Eutectics rallied to send the game against Freed-Hardeman to overtime, but lost 80-72 to the 20th-ranked team in the country.

Beyer is 1-for-1 as far as Player of the Week nods after claiming the award an astounding 11 times last year. The Eutectics return to the floor on Friday in Kansas to start another weekend twinbill when they meet Baker followed by a Saturday date with Benedictine. Beyer heads into the weekend 17-points shy of 3,000 for her career.
