Track Team Warms Up at Snow Bird Invite

The Eutectic Men's and Women's Track & Field teams opened up 2024 at the Snow Bird Invite hosted by Illinois College on Saturday at the King Field House – Bruner Center in Jackson, Ill. The Eutectics used the non-scoring meet as a tune up for the return to competition after winter break.

Leading the way for the Eutectics with a third-place finish in the 60m Hurdles and sixth place in the high jump was top-returner Taylor Washington. Her time of 9.77 in the 60m Hurdle qualifiers got her to the finals, where she improved to 9.75 seconds – just .01 seconds behind the second-place finisher from Greenville University. Teammate Mariah Scott finished fifth in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 10.53. Washington also finished sixth (of nine) in the high jump with a leap of 1.40m (4-8).

Senior Alyssa McPike led the UHSP middle-distance runners with an eighth-place finish of 19 runners in the 800m, clocking in at 2:36.09.

Hannah Burch and Brianna Ramsey each qualified for finals in their respective throwing events. Burch's second-attempt at the shot put marked 10.20m (33-05.5) to beat out 12 other throwers for ninth-place in the event. Ramsey's first mark of 12.36m (40-06.5) in the weight throw was good enough for ninth place of 18 competitors. Freshman Elizabeth Fritzler picked up a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 9.78m (32-01).

On the men's side, newcomer Marlon Brown led the Eutectics with a 10th-place finish (of 23) in the 400m Dash with a time of 55.91 to become the third-fastest 400m runner in UHSP history. Brown also made his mark in the 200m Dash with a time of 24.44 seconds for 16th place of 48 to become the fourth-fastest 200m runner in the UHSP record books.

Jeremy Smith and Jared Morales each notched personal records at the meet. Smith's time of 5:29.96 in the Mile was his best-ever and good enough for 14th place. Morales ran a 26.01 in the 200m Dash for his best time to finish 32nd.

The Eutectics will be back in action next weekend at the Principia College Relays in Elsah, Ill., Friday – Saturday, Jan. 26-27.
