Golden Eagles hold off Eutectics

The Eutectics continued their marathon weekend with their third match in as many days. This time it was the first of back-to-back matches in Arkansas as they fell to John Brown University. The UHSP men lost 7-0 while the women fell 6-1.

In men's action, the Golden Eagles posted a clean sheet against UHSP. Alvaro Montijano and James Bamberger in the top doubles draw got beat 6-2 by Hudson Dick and Jonathan Hillock. Caden Hillman and Gavin Brown lost the second doubles match 6-4 to Carson Thoma and Mason Carey while Alec Johnson and Othniel Marcellus fell in the third doubles spot, 6-1 to Spencer Keeter and Blake Cunningham.

Caden Hillman and Alec Johnson provided the toughest singles opposition for their John Brown counterparts, each falling 6-2, 6-3 in #2 and #5 action respectively. Hillman fell to Ketter while Cary trumped Johnson. Montijano got bested by Dick, 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles slot. Hillock took down Brown in the third singles match, 6-3, 6-1, Thoma beat Bamberger, 6-0, 6-1 and Hayes Stark defeated Marcellus, 6-0, 6-0.

Over in the women's division, Angela Meaurio and Erin Davis posted a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreak win over LinXin Tan and Caroline Hillock in the #1 doubles spot. Abigail Woodring and Erin Kuykendall blanked Ainsley Fortschneider and Charlie Dunajcik, 6-0 in the other doubles match.

Meaurio, who has been playing awfully well of late, did not fare as well on the singles side as Tan defeated Meaurio, 6-4, 6-3. Davis would win her singles meet over Woodring, 6-2, 4-6 (10-6) while Fortschneider fell to Kuykendall, 6-1, 6-1 and Hillock beat Dunajcik, 6-0, 6-1. The UHSP women were open in #3 doubles and #5 and #6 singles, forfeiting those slots.

The Eutectics wrap up their four-matches-in-four-days stretch Saturday morning against College of the Ozarks.
