Trailblazers pull off sweep of Eutectics
The Eutectics continue a busy pre-Easter stretch playing their second match of four straight in as many days. It was a road trip to Godfrey, IL to meet the Lewis & Clark Trailblazers. The UHSP women fell by a score of 8-1 while the Eutectic men lost by a 7-2 count.
On the women's side, the Trailblazers swept the four singles matches and overall lost only the top doubles match. Angela Meaurio and Erin Davis defeated Sofija Djunisijevic and Jelizaveta Govrova, 8-3 for the lone UHSP victory of the match. L&C's second doubles duo of Alison and Justine Azarak knocked off Ainsley Fortschneider and Charlie Dunajcik, 8-2.
Djunisijevic met Meaurio in the top singles contest with Djunisijevic prevailing, 7-5, 7-5 in a tight match. Govrova took down Davis, 6-1, 6-3 in the second singles match while Justin Azarak beat Fortschneider, 6-0, 6-4 in #3 singles. Dunajcik fell to Alison Azarak in fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0.
In men's action, Alvaro Montijano won off the top singles line besting Juan Cachaza, 7-5, 6-2. The Trailblazers were unbeaten in the remainder of the singles matches, but Alec Johnson provided the stiffest competition through the rest of the Eutectic lineup as he forced Logan Schultz into a tiebreaker in the fifth singles match. Schultz ended up winning, 4-6, 6-0 (10-5). Davis Rowton took the second singles match defeating Caden Hillman, 6-1, 6-3. Gavin Brown fell in third singles, 6-3, 6-3 to Mlungisi Mhlanga. Lewis & Clark's Sibususo Dube held off James Bamberger in #4 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Othniel Marcellus lost to Viktor Belic in #6 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Hillman and Brown meanwhile won their second straight doubles match in as many days taking an 8-6 decision off James Makaranga and Dube. The Eutectics dropped the other two doubles matches with Montijano and Bamberger falling to Cachaza and Rowton, 8-5. Mhlanga and Belic beat Johnson and Marcellus, 8-2.
The UHSP men and women both stay on the road and head to Siloam Springs, Arkansas for a pair of matches. They meet John Brown University on Friday and College of the Ozarks on Saturday.
