Webster edges UHSP in 5-4 contest

The UHSP Eutectics tried to make it a two-match win streak coming off a victory over Kaskaskia as they traveled to meet the Webster Gorloks on Wednesday afternoon. The Eutectics tandem of Caden Hillman and Gavin Brown have been hot lately and both prevailed in all their matches against Webster, but it was not enough as the Gorloks edged UHSP, 5-4.

Brown and Hillman paired as the Eutectic #2 doubles team and defeated Carson Fisher and Britton Struewing, 8-3. Hillman and Fisher battled in the second singles spot as well with Hillman prevailing 7-6, 6-2. Brown, playing out of the third singles position, need a tiebreaker to defeat Matt Birchmeier, 4-6, 6-4 (10-7). Alvaro Montijano won his top singles match defeating Alex Pinkston, 6-3, 7-5 but that was the only other match the Purple and Gold won. Webster's top doubles team of Pinkston and Birchmeier took down Montijano and James Bamberger, 8-7 (7-5). The Gorloks cruised in the third doubles match as Nicholas Granada and Jack Forlenza posted an 8-1 win over Alec Johnson and Othniel Marcellus.

In the other singles matches, Granada held of Bamberger 6-0, 6-2 and Struewing handled Johnson, 6-1, 6-0. Robert McDaniel took the final singles contest over Marcellus, 6-2, 6-0.

The match against the Gorloks was the first of four matches in as many days for the Eutectics. They now take a 1-9 record into a Thursday contest at Lewis & Clark before a Friday road match at John Brown and a Saturday meeting with College of the Ozarks.
