Missouri Valley Defeats UHSP
The Eutectics tennis teams hit the road to match up with Missouri Valley in Marshall, MO. The Vikings had won the last two matches against UHSP heading into the tilt on Wednesday.
Angela Meaurio scored the lone UHSP point for the day in women's singles, posting a 6-2, 6-3 win in #1 singles over Milene Marciniuk. Meaurio teamed up with Erin Davis to win Court 1 doubles, as well, with a score of 6-2. The Viking women, however, took the rest of the contests in a 6-1 win over the visitors from St. Louis. In #2 singles, Queralt Carbo defeated Erin Davis, 6-2, 6-0. Mara Vidal and Nikoleta Aleksic both blanked their opponents Ainsely Fortschneider and Charlie Dunajcik respectively, 6-0, 6-0. UHSP did not fill #5 nor #6 singles, losing those by forfeit. They also forfeited #3 doubles. Despite Meaurio and Davis's top-court doubles win, the doubles point went to the Vikings, who won the second and third courts. .
On the men's side, Missouri Valley topped the Purple and Gold, 7-0. Jacopo Scottocornola and Francesco Carratti took down Alvaro Montijano and James Bamberger in the top doubles spot, 6-3. In #2 doubles, Kaito Tanitsu and Yago Calduch downed Caden Hillman and Gavin Brown, 6-1. Othniel Marcellus and Alec Johnson fell to Alescon Deschamps and Gonzalo Lopez Aliaga, 6-0 in #3 doubles. In men's singles, Tanitsu held off Montijano, 6-2, 6-4. Hillman rallied after a 6-0 loss in the opening set against Caratti to challenge his Viking counterpart. Hillman would drop the second set 6-4 in #2 singles. In the third slot, Alexis Diaz defeated Brown, 6-3, 6-1 while Benjamin Ganem defeated Bamberger in #4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Marcellus and Johnson both dropped their singles match by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores to Caratti and Gonzalo Aliago respectively.
The Eutectics play host to Grand View this weekend at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center on Saturday.
