COLUMBIA, MO. - The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy wrapped up the 2023 regular season on Saturday afternoon in Columbia. It was a season that opened on Aug. 26 on a soggy Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to Evangel. It was a similar final chapter to the regular season story as the Eutectics lost an American Midwest Conference game to the Cougars 5-0 on another damp day.
Neither offense was sharp early as the game saw only one first half goal. The Cougars finally got on the board in the 33rd minute when Luke Sowerby scored off a pass from Joshua Peterson. It was the Cougars lone goal in the first 45-minutes despite unloading 18 shots, but only five were on goal.
The Cougars opened things up in the second half as they notched four second half goals by four different goal scorers to finish out the 5-0 shutout. Travis Smith made it 2-0 ten minutes into the half and Miguel Gonzalez added to the lead 20 minutes later. Colin Gann and Nedim Sarajlila finished out the scoring for Columbia. Gonzalez ended the game with a goal and two assists.
Columbia outshot UHSP 38-6 including 15-1 in shots on goal. Jack Wolfe made 10 saves for the Eutectics.
The Eutectics end the regular season with a mark of 3-10-3 and 0-5-2 in the AMC. will next be in action in the Quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference Tournament. The Purple in Gold will travel to Walnut Ridge, AR as the 8-seed to meet the tournament's overall top-seed in Williams Baptist. The game will be at 1:00pm on Saturday.
