Owls Soar Ahead of Eutectics

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic men's basketball team hosted former American Midwest Conference (AMC) rival William Woods University from Fulton, Mo., for a non-conference game on Monday night in the UHSP gymnasium. The WWU Owls (5-7, 2-4 HEART), who have won nine of the last 10 meetings with UHSP, maintained their advantage over the Eutectics with a dominant 83-66 win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Justin Coleman opened up the scoring for UHSP with a jump shot immediately following tipoff. But, the Owls' Oshae Barquet followed up quickly with a three, fed by Demarco Buchanan, to take the lead for WWU that they would not relinquish for the entirety of the game.
  • The Owls were not afraid to shoot from the perimeter, knocking down 8-of 15 threes in the first half and pounding the boards. After 10 minutes, the Owls held a double-digit lead over the Euts (22-11) and extended that to 43-22 by halftime.
  • After struggling with consistency in the first half, the Eutectics improved from 29% to 45% shooting, outscored the Owls 44-40, and outrebounded them 19-14 in the second half. But, the effort was not enough to catch the WWU team, whose first-half cushion was bolstered by 50% shooting in the second half.
  • Justin Coleman led all scorers with 21 points, going 8-for-12 from the floor, 2-for-3 from the arc, and 3-for-4 from the line, and nabbing four steals. Braeden Jordan and Bryant Odunayo each recorded 10 points, while Brennan Walker had nine points and six rebounds. Landon Engelage scored four points before a bloody exit from the game following head contact under the basket late in the first half. Carmello Bostwick (4), David Moore (3), Braylon Rios (2), Dylan Merkle (2), and Christian Harwood (1) also scored for UHSP.
  • Demarco Buchanan led the Owls with 16 points, going 4-for-4 from the arc, 5-for-7 from the floor, and 2-for-2 from the line.

NEXT UP:

Now 2-8 overall, the Eutectics will stay in town for one more non-conference home matchup on Thursday, Dec. 11, against Oakland City University (Ind.)(3-5) at 6 p.m. before travelling to Conway, Ark., on Saturday to begin AMC competition against Central Baptist College.
