Eutectics can't hold late lead against WBU in G1; Eagles earn sweep
WALNUT RIDGE, AR – Williams Baptist swept a Friday doubleheader against the Eutectics with wins of 7-6 and 11-8. The opener was tough to stomach for UHSP as they took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but WBU scored three in the home half of the seventh for a walk-off win. Game two saw the Eagles get out to an early 8-1 lead. UHSP clawed back to make a game of it and eventually had the tying run at the plate in the ninth, but Deklan Riggs flied out to end the game. The top two arms for UHSP, Barrett Lohman and Tristan Calmes, both suffered losses on the day.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
GAME 1 - WILLIAMS BAPTIST 7, UHSP 6
- Jacob Grim tripled in the third to score Nolan Harding and Holden Campbell to stake the Eutectics to a 2-0 lead.
- The Eagles jumped on top with a 3-run fifth to lead 3-2. Gavin Mink hit a sac fly to get WBU on the board and then a Mari Thomas two-run homer to left field gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead, his second of the season.
- Caden Buxton third homerun of the year, a solo shot in the top of the sixth, pulled UHSP back even at 3-3.
- Trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Harding tied it with a sac fly and after Grim was intentionally walked, Joe Celeste singled in two with a base hit to left and the Eutectics led 6-4.
- UHSP starter Barrett Lohman left after six innings with a 6-4 lead and was in line for the win. He allowed four runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out six as Holden Campbell came in for the save. But Mink's first homerun tied the game at 6-6 and WBU walked it off in the bottom of the seventh as Skylar Morrison grounded out to drive in the game winning run.
- Campbell (1-1) took the loss on the hill going .2IP surrendering three runs on two hits with a pair of walks.
- Connor Brinkley (3-0) picked up the win in relief for Williams Baptist despite allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout as he pitched the seventh.
GAME 2 - WILLIAMS BAPTIST 11, UHSP 8
- The Eagles jumped out to an 8-1 lead after two innings. Lawson Aaron hit a two-run homer in the first and as part of a six-run second, Gavin Mink had a two-run single and Skylar Morrison hit a bases-clearing double to center. UHSP's lone run early came on a Caden Buxton solo homerun in the second.
- Buxton added an RBI single in the fourth and Brandon Gibbs added a solo homer in the fifth, his fourth of the year to make it 8-3.
- Sebastian Villegas and Jake Meyer added RBI singles in the UHSP eighth to make it 10-6.
- Brandon Gibbs opened the ninth getting hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a balk. Jackson Hewitt would score on an infield pop-up that was not caught. The Eutectics did manage to get the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but a fly out ended the game.
- Tristan Calmes suffered the loss as he was touched for four runs on eight hits over his two innings. He struck out three but did walk five. Gavin Long was solid in five innings of relief as he struck out six allowing a run. Peyton Schaefer pitched the eighth and gave up a run.
- Dawson Cloud (2-4) went five innings and got the win for WBU. He struck out three, walked one and gave up three runs on four hits. Five Eagle relievers finished out the gave with none recording more than four outs.
- Caden Buxton ended the game 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI's.
- Lawson Aaron was 2-for-5 and drove in three for Williams Baptist while Skylar Morrison had a hit but drove in four.

The Eagles (17-12, 6-2 AMC) and Eutectics (10-15, 3-5 AMC) will finish out the three-game series with a noon contest on Saturday.
