The Eutectics keep the thunder rolling and blowout Lincoln

ALTON, IL – The Eutectics were able to carry over their offensive explosion into the Saturday doubleheader against Lincoln as UHSP took both ends of the twin bill and three of four overall from the Blue Tigers. Tristan Calmes was masterful in game one going the distance and fanning ten in a 10-3 win while Nolan Harding drove in five in a 16-4 win in game two.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 10, LINCOLN 3

  • Brandon Gibbs sent the first pitch of the home-half of the first down the leftfield line for a leadoff homerun, his team leading third of the season. UHSP added two unearned runs later when Sebastian Villegas drove a ground-rule double to the gap in left center to score Nolan Harding and Jacob Grim and put the Eutectics on top 3-0 after one.
  • Holden Campbell and Grim added RBI singles in a four-run second. Deklan Riggs blooped a two-run single to shallow left center as the Eutectics led 7-0 after two.
  • The club's traded runs over the third and fourth. Lincoln got on the board in the third thanks to a throwing error on a fielder's choice. UHSP answered that an inning later on a sac fly from Villegas as it was 8-1 after four.
  • Lincoln took until the sixth until they finally had two runners aboard in the same inning.
  • Tristan Calmes (2-1) turned in his best outing of the season. The Blue Tigers scored two cosmetic runs in the seventh, but Calmes threw a complete game, five-hitter. He struck out ten, walked four and hit a batter.
  • Dave Watkins III (0-1) was pulled after just two innings. He suffered the loss yielding seven runs, five earned on six hits while walking three and fanning a pair.
  • Grim would go yard to left in the sixth that came after a leadoff gap double by Harding. Grim pulled back even with Gibbs for the club lead in homers with three.
  • UHSP went 6-for-14 with runners in scoring positions. Lincoln went 2-for-8.
  • Brandon Gibbs, Jacob Grim and Liam Macphie all had two-hit games. Grim and Sebastian Villegas each drove in three.

UHSP 16, LINCOLN 4 (7 INNINGS)

  • Nolan Harding and Holden Campbell had early RBI's as UHSP built a 3-0 lead through two. The Eutectics kept pouring on the offense with a six-run third. Sebastian Villegas and Campbell delivered RBI's while Liam Macphie doubled to right center to drive in a pair and Harding singled up the middle with two outs to score two. UHSP led 9-1 after three.
  • Tim Fleming hit a two-run homerun to center in the fourth to make it a 9-3 game. It was his first homer and RBI's of the season.
  • Jacob Grim (1-0) went a solid four innings giving three runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out six, including five of the first six outs to start the game. The 7-inning shortened affair allowed Grim to be in line for the win.
  • Hunter Mitchell (0-0) made his first appearance on the mound this year getting the start for Lincoln. He was chased after a two-run double from Liam Macphie as he went 2.1IP getting charged with eight runs on seven hits. He walked four and fanned two.
  • Duncan Barker came on to pitch the fifth for UHSP and walked the bases loaded but escaped the jam with a strikeout to get out it unscathed.
  • Harding drove in his fourth run of the game with a double down the leftfield line to score Campbell who reached on a throwing error. Harding would drive in a fifth with a single through the left side as part of a four-run sixth. Harding went 3-for-4.
  • Every spot in the Eutectic lineup scored at least one run.

NEXT UP:

The Eutectics (5-8) return to the diamond next weekend as they play a four-game series against Williams Woods (5-4), a conference rival from a season ago when the Owls were members of the AMC. After that series, the Eutectics will open up the month of March with their first conference games of the year, a home four-game set against Central Baptist beginning on Friday, March 6.
