EUTECTICS ARE HEADED TO THE AMC TOURNAMENT
ST. LOUIS, MO - The 2025 season will be remembered as the first time the UHSP Baseball team made the American Midwest Conference Tournament. Wednesday night, the Eutectics learned that they were in the field-of-six when Williams Baptist lost both games of a doubleheader to the Mission Patriots, eliminating the Eagles from tournament contention and delivering the six-seed to UHSP.
The Eutectics are just in their second year of existence. After a 11-29 overall mark in their inaugural season including a 4-17 mark in conference play, Head Coach Rick Heines' group this season finished the regular season at 22-28 and 16-20 in AMC play. The Eutectics run to the tournament was aided by an April 11-12 series against WBU where UHSP took three of four. That gave the Eutectics the head-to-head tie-breaker if a spot in the tournament was going to come down to that. As the season entered the final week, UHSP put pressure on WBU by sweeping a four-game series against Hannibal-LaGrange, outscoring the Trojans in the four games by a combined score of 49-15. That put UHSP two games ahead of Williams Baptist in the win column in the conference standings. With the Eagles having lost to overcome the head-to-head potential tiebreaking situation, that forced WBU to have to take at least three games from Mission in their season-ending series. When the Patriots took the first two from the Eagles on Wednesday night, the Eutectics were in.
The field of six is now set for the tournament that begins on Tuesday at Carshield Field on O'Fallon, MO. The tournament runs through Friday, May 2. Missouri Baptist comes in as the defending conference tournament champions. They along with Columbia were the co-regular season champs this year. Mission, Central Baptist and William Woods are also in the tournament field. Here is how the Eutectics fared against the other tournament teams this reagular season:
Missouri Baptist: 2-2
Columbia: 0-4
Mission: 1-3
Central Baptist: 0-4
William Woods: 1-3
UHSP's first game in the tournament will be on Tuesday at 3:00p. The opponent will be the 3-seed Mission. A win in that game advances them to a Wednesday 1:00p contest. If they lose that first game on Tuesday, they will play an elimination game on Tuesday night at 6:00p against the 4-Central Baptist/5-William Woods loser.
